Biggest Challenge

Family and friends back home have been my biggest challenge. While my mind is focused during ministry times, during my down time, I miss them dearly. It truly gives you a bigger appreciation for the long-term personnel and the gift of their time and sacrifice.

Back home, my 13 friends were my core community. It has shown me how important community is! My community back home has given me the vision of helping non-believers overseas find community where they can find a relationship with God.  

Pray for students and long-term workers as they live far from family. Pray they find community, wherever they may live.

Homesickness and Perseverance

Halfway through gap year and the home sickness has hit! Going through Christmas and New Years away from family and friends for the first time was pretty tough for me. However, being surrounded by so many other people going through the same wave of emotions was uplifting. Unfortunately, being gone from home doesn’t just stink through the holidays.

Over the month of January, I truly had to rely on God to comfort me through His Word, prayer, and His will to see all nations come together for His glory. Even through the couple of times that I was sick/hurt my ankle, which prevented me from going out for a few days, the Lord was still providing me with the strength to persevere through all of my hardships.

Start spreading the Good News of Jesus to the nations who live in New York City. Partnering with Filipino-American pastors and believers, you will reach out to the diverse nationalities that live in Queens, New York. Utilizing a community center for classes in Martial Arts, tutoring high school students, and music, you will interact with the nations. Having experience in these skills is a bonus, but not required. You may also use sports such as basketball, soccer and volleyball in a nearby park to meet students and adults to start conversations that lead to the gospel and discipleship.

The Philippine tourism slogan is “It's more fun in the Philippines,” so for sure, while you work & minister, you will have fun getting to know the Filipinos of Camiguin and Socorro Island. These beautiful islands with their hospitable people are common tourist destinations, but few are going there to share the gospel. Most on these islands are very religious but are still not sure of their salvation. As a team, you will work together, spending time in villages, learning about culture, sharing your lives & sharing the gospel through testimonies, drama, sports & music.

Job description: Be part of what God is doing to complete the Great Commission among the last unreached people groups in our city, located directly on the equator. Our city has a decent population of Christians, but there is not much work among – and has never been a church started among our focus people group. You will be a tourist and spend your time in public spaces, including a river walk and other parks sharing the gospel and looking for individuals open to hearing more.

English Camps

One of the coolest things about getting to be here is making connections with people. I love the English café and hearing some awesome believers’ testimonies and the persecution they have faced but still persevere. They are showing true faith! 

 

The English camps were so amazing. Teaching young kids was such a sweet time. Let us not forget about them and how important it is to plant seeds. We may think they don’t really understand (maybe sometimes they don’t) but planting a seed may start a spark, that can be built on and become a blaze through prayer, discipling, and sharing. Jesus did say, “let the little children come to me.” It starts there, with some fun worship songs and activities, love, and compassion.
