Meet the Team: Philippine Summer Camiguin

Meet Lil

I grew up in a small town in Texas. I currently attend a small Christian University where I am studying Christian Studies with an emphasis in missions/Biblical Studies and Theology and a minor in music. After I graduate I plan to continue my education through seminary.

For a long time I have felt called to do ministry and I feel incredibly blessed to have joined Nehemiah Teams this summer. Though I hope to continue doing cross-cultural work, I know the Lord will use me wherever I am. My call in life is to join in God’s mission (loving Him and caring for/loving His creation.) I can only hope and pray that I steward this call well.

Meet Julia

Hi! My name is Julia, I am 19 years old and currently live in Arkansas. I attend a small Baptist University where I am double majoring in Spanish and Community and family services. Missions have always been a huge part of my life. I grew up as an IMB missionary kid in Italy.

As I have come to know the Lord Jesus as my personal Savior, I have grown in my relationship with Him, and have continued to witness the need for the Gospel to be shared to all the nations. The Lord has been opening doors for me to go on mission. After college I am willing to go wherever the Lord needs to send me. Though I’d love to be a cross-cultural worker, I know that the Lord can use me in many ways through going, sending, welcoming, and more. I am excited! This summer has truly been a blessing. With so many new experiences, important lessons learned, and willingness of the Lord working in and through my team to make HIS NAME KNOWN.

Meet Kylie

I’m from Oklahoma. I came to know Christ when I was 15, and during my time in youth group my youth pastor placed a strong emphasis on missions. After going on a few short-term mission trips with my youth group, God gave me a heart for sharing the gospel with others.
I’ve always loved photography, so when I heard about an opportunity to use that passion while serving the Lord, I knew I wanted to be part of it. Before coming, I didn’t know exactly what the summer would hold, but I did know two things: I would experience some uncomfortable living conditions, and I would get to see God at work. Both have proven true. Right now I’m sleeping in a tent and battling bugs every night, but I’m also watching people search for the hope and peace that can only be found in a relationship with Christ.
I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunity to be here. The greatest joy in my life is serving the Lord, and I’m grateful that I get to wake up each day and tell people about the love and sacrifice of Jesus.
Two verses have especially encouraged me throughout this journey:
Matthew 28:19–20 – "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."
Luke 10:2 – "The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest."

Meet the Team: Philippine Summer Butuan Kids -- Bryanna

Meet Bryanna

My name is Bryanna, and I am 18 years old from Alabama. This summer, I got the opportunity to serve in the Philippines. For the past three years, the Lord has continually placed the desire for missions on my heart. After much prayer and seeking His guidance I felt Him leading me to step out of my comfort zone and serve overseas.

A verse that has encouraged me throughout this time is Romans 10:14 “How, then can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” This verse reminds me why sharing the Gospel is SO important. And how without humbling ourselves and leaving our comfort at home - no one would hear the Gospel.

Meet the Team: Philippine Summer Butuan Kids - Victoria

Meet Victoria

Hey y'all, I was born and raised in a small, Texas town. I grew up my whole life in a Christian household.

My passion for missions started at a very young age. When my dad allowed me to “tag along” with him one Christmas to do missions in a trash-slum in Mexico. 8 year old me was broken when I saw young children, by the dozens, emerging from the trash in tattered clothing while I stood there shivering in my layers and jacket. That day changed me. I am forever thankful for my dad. And his example of “going” and “telling” to the nations that he has given me to follow.

Growing up I continued to read missionary biographies and doing small missions trips across the border. At the age of 16 I began working at a Christian summer camp. I spent my whole summer there and grew a lot spiritually. I loved seeing God at work in people's lives. I dedicated 3 summers there before I picked up the command to “go.” So at 20 years old, I did a summer of missions with Nehemiah Teams in Guam. This greatly encouraged me to continue “going,” especially to places more lost and hungrier for the Gospel.

The Lord placed the Philippines on my heart. Even though it wasn't the place “I” wanted to go, I remembered it wasn't about me. This summer the Lord has blessed me so much and I consider it honor to be apart of what He is doing here.

Romans 10:14-15

How then they call on the one they have not believed in. And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”

Meet the Team: Philippine Ag -- Bicol Member

Meet D.D.!

Hello! I am from Southwest Missouri. I wanted to spend my summer serving the Lord and sharing the gospel! The Lord led me to a cross cultural and agricultural context!

I have seen God’s heart in many of our national partners. A moment that sticks out to me is the passion and love of God through our national supervisor. He was translating for one of our teammates and the Bible was brought up. A physical Bible was handed to him and he began to passionately explain parts of the Bible. It was as if he would have given anything for this family to receive and follow Jesus.

I’ve realized while being away from my normal routine that I have pridefully relied a lot on my own independence rather than asking for help from the body of Christ.

The hardest thing to leave behind will be the hospitality and servanthood of the Filipino culture. Going home will be hard because the American culture’s focus is ME. I love the servant hood and selflessness of the Filipino culture.

Please pray for discernment for future long term work in the cross cultural context.

Meet the Team: Philippine Ag -- Bicol Member

Meet Laurel!

Hey y’all! I’m from Pascagoula, Mississippi where I attend community college. I wasn’t originally planning to come on this trip—in fact, I thought I was going to Peru. But I kept praying, and even though I wasn’t sure yet, I kept rereading the trip descriptions. My eyes kept going back to this one. I took it as a sign and chose it. It felt right, and I’m glad I listened.

Coming into the trip, I prepared my heart to be uncomfortable. I knew it would stretch me, and it has—but in the best way. The whole experience has changed my perspective way more than I ever thought it would. I knew it would shift something in me, but I didn’t realize how much I’d walk away wanting to do more missions.

When I need to unwind after a long day, I usually just put my headphones in and listen to Petra. And if I can get my hands on a fully melted Cadbury Oreo bar, even better—you gotta go all in on the full Filipino experience. As for local food, I’ve really enjoyed pancit. It’s just good.

One passage that’s carried me through this trip is Isaiah 42. It talks about strength and being a servant—that’s really what I’m here to do. When I get annoyed or discouraged, I remind myself that God is in control. That verse helps keep me humble and focused on who I’m serving and why.

Please pray for our safety, physical protection, unity for our team, and that the hearts of the people we encounter will be open to what the Lord wants to do.

Meet Christy!

Howdy! I’m Christy from Rockville, Virginia. I am a junior studying Secondary Education and Global Studies. After a week trip to Guadalajara, Mexico summer of ‘24, I decided to dedicate an entire summer to serving the Lord living out the great commission.

I praise the Lord for our safe arrival and this wonderful opportunity. Every Bible study brings new faces and stories. It's a joy to hear how God is working through villages as someone may relate to a shared testimony or as they share their personal journeys of faith and growth. Each encounter strengthens our faith and reminds us of the power of community and shared belief.

I had the privilege of leading a Bible study with two wonderful ladies. Back home, I lead a Bible study for middle and high school girls. I had an index card with a lesson plan on it in my Bible that had been driving me crazy because it would get caught in the pages, although for some reason I did not take it out of my Bible. When I was asked to lead a Bible study just five minutes before starting, I knew exactly where to turn—the bent, flappy index card in John 4. We studied John 4:46–54, where Jesus heals an official's son. I encouraged the two Catholic ladies to to read the Bible, to take Jesus at His word, to lean into the promises of God.

Being 12 hours away from home is a bit of a balancing act, but God has blessed me with a fantastic team of sisters in Christ.

Please keep us in your prayers for good health (3 John 1:2) and that we remain bold and confident amidst distractions and under pressure (Acts 4:29).

NT4Teens: Meet the Team

NT4Teens Team Members

Front row (L to R): Ruth, Ava, Katherine, Soriah, Jessie
Back row (L to R): Emma, Jake, Isaiah, Trey & Ben

The beautiful Philippine islands with their hospitable people are common tourist destinations, but few are going there to share the gospel. Some on these islands are religious but are still not sure of their salvation.

As a team, you will work together on various construction/farm projects at the Mindanao Baptist Rural Life Center while you learn the history of how God has used this research farm to impact over 90 nations around the world.

Spend time in local villages, learning about culture while sharing your lives & the Gospel through drama, music & kids classes. You might also get your hands dirty while helping on a local farm! Spend your day off visiting a local beach or swimming in a natural cold spring.

The Philippines is still a harvest field so come help us harvest in these areas. The Philippines is also becoming a harvest force. Through your ministry, you will help encourage the local churches in making disciples and becoming better senders.

For each project, students & leaders will be divided into separate ministry teams of 4-5. For each group of 5 students (ages 14-17), there will be at least 1 adult leader (21 years or older). Adults leaders may be from the student's church or they may be recruited from former Nehemiah Teams participants.

Meet the Team: Philippine Ag -- Cebu

Team Leader: J.M.
Members: Jeteric & Isaiah

J.M. is leading a team of 3 to be part of agricultural work in the central Philippines. After a week+ of training at the Mindanao Rural Life Center on Mindanao, the team will fly to their final destination of Cebu City where they will connect with their field supervisor. Their ministry will focus on the rural areas of the island of Cebu.

Group chant:
We are one there i no one better except the one above... He is the go-getter... we are one!!

Please pray for the team as the acclimate to the local situation.
Pray for team unity & good health.

Meet The Team: Camiguin Island

Our team is staying on the Philippine island of Camiguin this summer. Our goal is to share with every household in our area, finding individuals who desire to learn more about Christ. We want to disciple and pour into these people with the hopes that they will choose to follow Christ and start churches here.

Please pray for open eyes for us to see the need & open hearts to receive the Good News we're sharing.

Pray for a lasting sense of ownership by the local believers to start a church here and develop their fellow brothers in Christ.

I am Austin, I’m 22. I am the team leader for the Camiguin Team. I just graduated with a degree in counseling from Liberty University and am pursuing a master's in crisis relief and trauma coupling in the fall. Meet the Team: Chicago!

Thank you so much for your prayers during our preparation for this summer! I'm Sydney, half of the Project 52 Chicago team. Becky and I are two southern gals who will be spending our summer sharing the love of Christ with people right here in North America. We are really looking forward to sharing the gospel with the people we meet, and we wanted to make sure you got to know us too!

Becky (right) and me with Chicago's beautiful skyline

Becky is the team leader for the summer. She loves both studying and playing music, and she really enjoys worshipping the Lord through singing.

I (Sydney) love all things related to culture, so I am so excited that people from every tribe, tongue, and nation will worship together in heaven one day. I also really enjoy writing, so you'll be hearing from me quite a bit this summer.

We made it to Chicago and are ready to begin our work. We will be in one of the most diverse zip codes in America, creating meaningful connections and sharing the gospel. We will also be helping local evangelical witnesses and workers gather information on the people groups represented in this cultural epicenter. Chicago is often considered the "forgotten city" when it comes to mission work, so we are glad to conduct research to hopefully help the workers here better understand the people groups.

Please pray for the following:
  • our adjustment to the area
  • that the Holy Spirit will work in the hearts of those we meet
  • that we will use everything we have to make His name known throughout Chicago
  • that God would give us wisdom and a strategy to conduct our research and share the gospel with such a diverse community
Sending love from Sweet Home Chicago,
-Sydney

Meet the Thai Dorm Team

Hello friends and family,

We are so excited to finally have contact with you and we look forward to keeping you updated as our summer progresses. So far during orientation we have bathed from buckets, washed our clothes by hand, dominated nearly every team building activity, studied Scripture together, and started founding these relationships that are sure to last a life time. Our team is comprised of two different groups going to teach English in Thai schools. At this time we are still unsure about specific details of our assignments, but we are all eager to get started! Here is a quick introduction to our Thai Dorm teams:

 Thai Dorm: Tribal

Haley: The Haitian Gone Asian
Haley is the team leader for the Thai Tribal Dorm. She goes to Mississippi State University and studies Elementary Education. In addition to wrangling children, Haley enjoys intense tennis matches, taking long strolls through campus, and sinking her teeth into a fresh, crisp dill pickle.

Liz: The Disney Princess
Liz studies at Troy University, emphasizing English and Teaching English as a Second Language. When she's not singing to small animals, Princess Liz likes to paint, write, read, listen to music, and speak Mandarin Chinese.

Thai Dorm: Government

Mo: The Peanut Butter Lover
Mo attends Baylor University where she spends her days dissecting different languages as a linguist. Apart from this she also loves to bury her nose in a good book, catch a quick nap, and climb rocks like a pro.

Alyssa: The Rice Enthusiast
Alyssa is the leader for the Thai Government Dorm and is a student at Columbus State Community College and spends her time learning about Early Childhood Development and Education. When Alyssa's not cooped up in a classroom, she enjoys to be outside, watching movies, or eating ice cream.

Abby: The Golden Lioness
Abby is an English Education major at Lee University. Surprisingly she is able to do activities outside of her reading for school. If you catch her on the rare homework-free weekend you can find her hiking through the mountains or swimming in the Tennessee creeks.

We all are experiencing excitement, nerves, and mixed feelings as we begin this journey. Please be praying for the following:
  • To delight in the Lord daily
  • Team unity
  • Guidance for our leaders
  • Good health for all teammates
Thank you all and we will keep in touch!

2013 SE Asia EX & EV

Greetings from Nehemiah Teams!

My name is Eli, and I am blessed with the opportunity to keep you guys updated on the status of our team this summer.
Thanks to your prayerful support, 177 young adults from 75 colleges and 25 states will be travelling to 16 countries around the globe.
God has been so awesome throughout the whole process for preparing this years teams. Eight of these 177 students will be travelling to remote villages in Southeast Asia. We have an all-guys team, and are growing closer every day.

Please pray for God’s will to be done, and that we can come alongside and support the local missionaries. Pray that local, national churches can begin to pop up all over, and unreached people get reached.
Pray that God continues to overflow our team with His Spirit, and uses our team – Steve, Brad, Jacob, Eli, Scott, Sean, Chase, and Nick – to help finish the Great Commission in this generation!
