Let me introduce you to Christy, a little Hispanic girl who
lives downstairs in our apartment complex. She’s 2 years old, doesn’t speak
much, and at first was really shy. She has completely changed towards us this
summer, especially Andrew. Every morning, she runs out of the apartment and
straight to Andrew and hugs his legs before being picked up and tossed in the
air. Every morning when she sees him she gets this huge smile on her face.
Christy doesn’t speak English yet, but Andrew, who minored in Spanish, just
carries her around and talks to her in Spanish all morning. She
just loves him and it is so precious.
I really wanted
to get a good picture of her smiling because she just has a beautiful smile,
but she won’t smile for the camera, she just stares at it. However, I learned
that she loves seeing pictures of herself and always laughs when you show her
one. This soon developed into... I take a picture, show it to her, and quickly flip
the camera around and get another picture of her laughing and the cycle
continues.
Now every time we
see her, she smiles and we wave and say “Hola!” and she waves and says “Hola!”
back.
