Zambia Youth Ministry Update

Throughout the summer, this team has been serving in a variety of ministries...
  • working with multiple churches to train and disciple church members in evangelism
  • seeking to establish new churches in new parts of the city
  • doing ministry to refugees at a large resettlement camp, and they are
  • working with vulnerable men and women who have hard past experiences, AND
  • lead a weekly podcast/radio show that is broadcast throughout the city.
Pray for continued endurance as they are involved in a variety of ministries.
Pray for comfort & healing for the refugees and vulnerable men & women
Pray for fruit that will remain from the training and discipleship opportunities through the local churches
Pray for the gospel to be boldly shared, for hearts to be opened and to respond.

What are you doing next summer??!!

Planting & Watering.. praying for growth

Our team has been going to a field in our village that is a popular hangout spot, 2-3 times a week. This past week alone we were able to thoroughly share the Gospel with 13 people! Seeds are certainly being planted & watered.

Join us in praying for the seeds that have been planted through this outreach. Pray that those who have heard the "Sacrifice Stories" will be open to hearing more.

So curious & eager

Since we've been staying in an English Village- with others our age temporarily living here solely to learn English- we've had the opportunity to share the Good News with many in countless coffee shops after their classes & during breaks. Though some are interested, no one that we've shared with has accepted the free gift, but we believe one in particular is so close! He is so curious & eager to learn. We've met 3 times to study the Bible together. Please be praying for him to no longer just absorb the head knowledge but to confess with his mouth that Jesus is Lord & believe in his heart that God raised Christ from the dead. (Rom 10:9)

English + the Gospel

Checking in from a country in Southeast Asia... we just finished our last English camp of the summer! We had an average of 70 kids every night which means that 70+ kids heard the Good News everyday! It was so encouraging... we are hoping to meet with the high school volunteers that helped to further their personal discipleship.

Please be praying for the Gospel seeds that were planted this week.
Pray also for the high school volunteers as they continue to grow in their new faith.

Share with those who are open

We're starting to wind down our ministry here in Central Asia. The large part of our summer has been spent acting as a filter for the long term workers. Going out to coffee shops, the seaside, restaurants & anything else provides us with conversation opportunities to discern where our friends are spiritually. If some of our friends seem disinterested, we'll share the Gospel as mush as we think they can absorb, and focus on others who are more interested. We've connected numerous people back to the long term workers platform, so they can continue to be poured into.

A significant stronghold we've had to overcome is the national's collective condemnation of all religion. As a result of this, an intense hatred is being formed towards all religions. It's been extremely tough trying to separate Christianity from that ideology. Regardless, relationships have been fruitful.

It's been extremely encouraging reading stories from the frontlines of the kingdom. We've prayed for the other teams and we're eager to hear all of the stories when we get to debrief.

Press Toward the Goal

I have loved reading everyone's updates & am praying for all teams as we finish out the summer. Our team (Abby & Morgan) has traveled to 8 different cities so far, and we have 3 more cities to go. We have been able to share our testimonies, do VBS, and share the Gospel with over 150 people (mainly kids).

The culture & language barrier makes it really hard to straight up evangelize, but we have had many kids seem very interested in the Gospel while many adults have been impacts by our testimonies.

We have met lots of people that think your life is successful if you make a certain amount of money. Many of these kids think that going to college in the U.S. and getting a good job is all that they need. That is what their parents tell them. It has been cool to love on these kids, teaching them the Gospel & English.

I have been reminded of this verse as we near the end of the summer & are getting tired....

Praying that we all treat the END of the summer with the same love & excitement as we did the FIRST week we got to our locations!

South Pacific Summer Update

Wednesday equipping class at Guam Christian Life Fellowship... always a sweet time of studying the Word and praying together.

Pray for the South Pacific team as they head into their final days of ministry.... that relationships formed over the summer will be strengthened.
Pray that the local youth will continue to be encouraged to share the Gospel boldly.

Urban Muslim Outreach Update

The team is helping teach English to refugees in the heart of an urban mega city. Through the relationships formed in these classes, they then look to spend more time with the students outside of class to build deeper relationships and share the good news. The gospel is being shared, but the people are devout in their own faiths. The ground in this city is rocky.

Be praying for continued perseverance for the team as they continue teaching &  serving many refugees. They are constantly hearing hard & difficult stories from the students and all they’ve experienced.

As the team finishes up their ministry in this city...
  • Pray for healing & comfort for the refugees
  • Pray the team would always respond in compassion and love, boldly pointing to the Great Comforter & the One who loves them and died for them
  • Pray for the gospel to be boldly shared and for people to respond
  • Pray for new friendships to form and for existing friendships to deepen.

Botswana Bush Team Update

The Botswana Bush Team has been partnering closely with the local church to help fill whatever needs and strategy the churches have in reaching their people with the Gospel.

They have traveled and spent their days in both bush & urban settings doing evangelism, discipleship, children’s ministry, and leading worship. The gospel is being greatly sowed and the team is seeing people respond! Through their partnership with the local church, the new believers are then connected to the church and begin to be discipled.

  • Pray for continued endurance for the team as they travel and do ministry. Their schedule requires them to be extremely flexible and ready to jump on any task, so be praying for continued spirits of readiness and joy for whatever is to come.
  • Pray for the gospel to continue to be boldly shared & for many to respond.
  • Pray for the local church to be encouraged & catalyzed through this partnership!

Students Reaching Students to Reach Students...

My time in Zambia is over halfway done!! I am so sad to be leaving soon, but thrilled to take what I’ve seen & learned back home with me. We have been able to meet with so many college students over this summer!

Our goal is to share the Gospel, disciple believers and equip them to lead, and connect students with local Baptist churches. My team really focused on meeting with students at one particular college. We have been able to disciple around 10 girls consistently! We started a Bible Study on campus, and our prayer is
that it continues to grow once we leave!! God has been so gracious to us!! To Him be the glory!!

Pray that those in the campus Bible Study will continue to meet together after the team leaves.

Dawn prayer meeting

This week has been a lot better than last week. Our team is feeling a lot better physically, thank you so much for praying for us this week! We had a struggle with discouragement as we tried to finish ministry in B village, but we asked the Lord to go before us. We have been waking up at 4am to get on our knees before the Lord. That is early but so worth it to spend extra time talking to Jesus. God’s people are going to face spiritual warfare but He is faithful to fight for us when we ask Him to go before us.

We finished ministry in B village and continued the feeding program from the beginning of last week. Thirty-five children came & heard the gospel presented... and get fed some Filipino spaghetti! This is oddly sweet not savory and was a little bit of a shock to the Americans!

We returned to B village for our first Bible Studies & this was an encouragement to my heart! Bible studies are not easier than house to house evangelism, but having a relationship with the person we are talking to makes the time spent more encouraging to my heart.

Pray for our team to finish ministry strong the next week and a half. We are so close to being done and while we are tired, we want to continue to be obedient to what the Lord has asked us to do.

Update on new believers

The day after we baptized Tatay R, we stopped by to encourage him and say good-bye. He said that his family, including most of his children, were very angry with him for being baptized. Even his wife, Nanay, who had been so receptive before had begun to turn on us. His whole family was persecuting him for “being converted” from Catholicism and they didn’t believe in the miracle that God performed! Even while Tatay was explaining this to us, one of his daughters came up and started arguing with us, calling her father foolish and telling us we didn’t have permission from the family to baptize him. This island has many Catholic strongholds that keep people from accepting God’s grace.

Please pray that God would use Tatay and his daughter who is a fellow believer, to witness to their family!
Pray that persecution would not slow them or any of new believers down!

Catching up with the Camiguin team

Over the past few weeks, Tatay R was only one of the many lives God has changed in Sagay on our island. Partnering with the members of the local Baptist church, we’ve been doing ministry in the neighborhoods, preaching the gospel & discipling through follow-up Bible studies. In the first month of our ministry, we  conducted 32 Bible studies, given out 187 gospel tracts, gifted 16 Bibles, and had 4 baptisms! Look at how God has moved!

We’ve wrapped up our time in Sagay and moved to the next village this week to begin ministry. There is currently no Southern Baptist Church in the whole municipality. We have been sharing the Gospel &  discipling with the goal of starting the foundations for a house church that can grow in that community. Later this year, another volunteer team & IMB missionaries will be following up the work we’re doing with more discipleship and proper church development.

Pray that God blesses our ministry and that more would be receptive to the Gospel!

Physical & Spiritual Healing!

Three months ago, Tatay R was in a bad accident. He slipped and fell while carrying 80 kilos (175 lbs) of cement. He was 78 years old. He had many health problems as a result, and he was nearly deaf as well.

When our team first arrived at Tatay’s house, we didn’t know how to minister to him! We had to share the gospel with his wife, Nanay, and trust that she would scream our words into his ear so that he could hear. They were both very receptive!

They gave us food and invited us back to their house for Bible study a handful of times. One day, we told them the story of Jesus’ baptism and invited them to be baptized as well. Tatay was ecstatic! He told us to come back tomorrow afternoon so that he could be obedient to his Savior’s command.

The next morning, we got a phone call from Tatay’s daughter. She said that his injury was flaring up again and he did not feel well enough to do the baptism. Satan was attacking him. We left straight for his house where he was breathing heavily and stumbling around his kitchen with his neck wrapped in medicinal herbs. We asked him, “Tatay, if you felt better, would you still want to be baptized?” He said yes, and we prayed over him and laid hands on him. Instantaneously, his pain began to be soothed. He took the wraps from his neck and began jumping up and down and kicking! He was so full of energy! Not only that, but  he could suddenly hear too!

We walked from Tatay’s house about a mile to the seashore, we had to walk quickly to keep up with him! We baptized Tatay at the beach, prayed for his protection, and sang praises to God!

Faith that emboldens

We've had many opportunities to share with Uber drivers, people in malls & even people on the streets. We've hung out with cousins quite a bit & have had a few house visits and hang outs which have given us opportunities to share the Way. There have also been a lot of nominal people who haven't heard of what it means to be Born Again that we've been able to share with.

Our Faith has really been emboldening us to share & contend for the Truth. There are a lot of people hurting & searching and are yet prideful in their ideas.

We haven't had any known decisions made, however we've noticed there's been a lot of pondering. We've connected quite a few people to the church we go to here, but we haven't seen any come... yet.

Please pray for us! We're drawing close to a lot of these ladies and reality really sets in as we continue to remember the Truth in John 3:36.

Sharing in the Safe Zone

While the guys are out roughin’ it in the bush, we ladies went and loved on some girls at the safe house. Currently at the shelter are 8 girls (age range 7 years to 18+) and a baby boy there with his mom. Because of your generosity we were able to purchase some baby items, extra blankets, and food items for them.

Zambia Youth Ministry Update

These guys were just dropped off about 37 miles from town for a 3-night youth conference with about 600 people. They are getting some awesome star gazing tonight too. Earlier we ministered to 34 youth at a boarding school.

Pray for them to have many opportunities to encourage the youth for kingdom work and teach well as they have opportunities.
