Job Description: Be a part of pushing back darkness in Indonesia. Go deeper in your walk and put on the full armor of God. You will have opportunities daily to engage people with the good news and to see how prayer, your testimony, and the Word breakdown strongholds. This will not be an easy summer, but it will be very rewarding. This summer will require you to be a self-starter, intentional in sharing the gospel, and dependent upon the Holy Spirit. Your first stop will be a joint orientation with other Nehemiah Teams. Learning the skills needed to carry out your assignment as well as team building will fill these first few days. Your team will fly to your final destination for the summer. Following your ministry time you will return to the US for a joint debrief...sharing all God has done over the summer. It is expected that participants attend the complete program from orientation through debrief.

Students must commit to the entire program from orientation through debrief. Your first stop will be a joint orientation with other Nehemiah Teams. Learning the skills needed to carry out your assignment as well as team building will fill these first few days. Your team will fly to your final destination for the summer. Following your ministry time you will return to the US for a joint debrief... sharing all God has done over the summer.

Job Description: These islands have had little or no Christian witness. You'll meet lots of friendly people. Beautiful waterfalls, beaches & jungles to explore as well as the chance to share the Gospel with those that have never heard.

Students must commit to the entire program from orientation through debrief. Your first stop will be a joint orientation with other Nehemiah Teams. Learning the skills needed to carry out your assignment as well as team building will fill these first few days. Your team will fly to your final destination for the summer. Following your ministry time you will return to the US for a joint debrief... sharing all God has done over the summer.

Mom and Dad run a preschool in the local country while overseeing church planting efforts. In our city of 3.5 million there are people from all walks of life who are trapped in darkness. We need students who are ready, able, and eager to get creative and look for ways to engage our city with the Gospel. You will have opportunities to build relationships with young adults through an English language community. They are waiting to be your friends and hear about the Hope that's only found in Jesus. Though personal conversations over dinner, music, games, sports, etc. you will have the opportunity to make friends and share Truth. Through an outreach ministry and employment center for victims of human trafficking you can apply your gifts and skills to make a difference in the lives of these women and children. Other ministries may include prison ministry, working with street kids, deaf ministry, and exploring the streets of the city looking for open doors. Come, work near a college campus & see what God can do through you! Students are open to hearing the Good News, especially if they can practice their English. Make a difference in their lives this semester. Team will work at a student center near a college in Daet. The only public college in the area, many students come from outlying areas to study. Spend time with small groups that you could disciple & mentor as they grow in their faith. Team of the Day: Seed Sower

Job description: Hub City is home to over 2000 refugees from the Middle East. A national partner started a church & it's been amazing to see the Lord draw these Muslim background followers of Jesus to Himself. The team will serve through an English Summer Camp as a trial to see if a school for refugee children is a possibility. Help recruit refugees to the new camp, planning lessons & activities, helping teach children of all ages English 2-3 days a week with the possibility of weekly adult classes. Primary purpose of the English classes are to build relationships AND share the Gospel with the families that come.

Team of the Day: Embrace the Beyond

Location: Indonesia
Team size: 5
Job description: A "push" is being made to make sure every tribe & language in the South Pacific hears the Gospel. More boots on the ground are needed. Help is needed to share the Good News & helping our national partners that live in this area. Work alongside brothers who have been beaten, imprisoned, & whose family members have been killed as a result of wholeheartedly following Jesus. You will also search for other committed believers in the area. You will go out with them & share the Good News in remote villages that have never had the opportunity to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why has no one ever told me this before? I Believe.

Two planes, one overnight boat ride, one 2-hour boat ride, a three mile backpack walk, and a two hour car ride until we got to this village located on an island in Indonesia. People wonder a lot why there are people on this earth that have never heard the gospel, and that is just one example: because a plane will not take you directly to every people group. It requires a lot of walking and random car rides, after taking many planes, in order to share with someone about this entrusted gospel.

My team of three and our translator got out of the car and walked up to this hut built on stilts. We had just previously shared the gospel with this man who was so on fire for God afterwards that he wanted his family to hear also. So we went. We walked into the hut and were introduced to a family of two boys, a father, mother, aunt, and uncle. We were then introduced to a family in a neighboring hut that consisted of a mom and her daughter. We went into their hut and sat down while they were making food and that’s when I started sharing the gospel with her. I went through the whole story and then the food they prepared was ready, but I could see something in her face that led me to believe she gets it. So I prayed in that moment for The Holy Spirit to wreck her heart.

We ate rice and noodles, the typical food in Asia, and talked about everything else. When she started to collect the dishes from us, I asked her how she felt about my story and she responded: Saya percaya. I believe. She starts crying and hugging me saying again, “saya percaya, saya percaya.” Her mother then started doing the same thing right in behind her. The Holy Spirit was there. He had taken over her and her mother’s entire being and changed them right there in that moment.

Then all the men, four of them, sat down in the hut and our boys shared the gospel with them as well. They too responded, Saya percaya. I couldn’t handle it- the Holy Spirit was so heavy in that hut I just wanted to cry. Don’t worry, I did.

Later we shared the gospel with the other two women and they too believed! All eight people who were once identified as Muslims our now my brothers and sisters in Christ; are now spending eternity in heaven with Jesus.

We were sharing some more scripture with them, and as we read the Great Commission to them, one started crying and says, “Why has no one ever told me this before?” Why has no one ever told me this before.

This is reality. There are people on this earth that have not heard and will die without ever experiencing the true love of Christ. More than 70,000 people die every year without ever hearing the gospel. This is our responsibility as Christians to get the gospel to the ends of the earth- no matter what it takes. We should not live in anxiety about the persecution Christians face in these countries. “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power.” [2 Timothy 1:7] It’s time we grew a backbone and obeyed the calling of Christ on our lives, and let’s start with the people of countries in the 10/40 Window who have never even had a chance to believe.

Your team will be focused on walking the Spirit, praying diligently, boldly sowing the Gospel, working alongside national believers, finding areas of receptivity to the Gospel & making disciples. It can be difficult to get deeper in spiritual conversations using English only, so partnering with national believers is a must. Though the majority would claim to be Muslims, many are involved in mystic practices & dark magic. The area is known for a particular form of magical martial art. Many come to this area searching & praying for power & influence over spirits & people.

Please tell me how I can go to heaven!

Over the course of the past summer, my friends and I encountered so many wonderful people. There were times when we were tired, worn out, perplexed, and discouraged but, the Lord constantly sent people our way who would encourage us to keep going.

Toward the last leg of the summer, we had been hiking for many miles in the beating sun. We approached a village that seemed like all the rest. I recall this day being specifically hot and draining and we were desperate for rest.

Our team gathered under the platform of the village leader's home, where we hoped to rest for the night. With much sincerity, the village leader apologized when he informed us there was no room for us in his home. It was relatively small and his whole family still lived there with him. My selfishness drove me to being annoyed with this village, though I made every effort not to let my actions show it. I was honestly ready to strap up our packs and head out to the next village.

Moments later, an elderly woman came out of her home insisting that we all stay with her. She was a widow, who had been living alone for many years. My teammates and I were overjoyed that the Lord was working in our waiting and, that He provided even when I doubted.

We rested well that night and enjoyed most of the next day in that village. When we returned to the lady's house that evening we found her weeping in her kitchen along with her friend (who was also a widow). We were concerned about the situation and we asked what was going on. She proceeded to tell us that she felt a peaceful presence in her home while we were there and when we left for the day it was gone. We told her with confidence that it was completely the presence of the Holy Spirit with us.

"As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him." - 1 John 1:27

From that statement, the conversation transitioned to a spiritual topic and this woman wanted to know how she could know Jesus. She explained how she had not fulfilled all the requirements of her faith, and she feared she would surely go to hell.

I'll never forget her words: "Please tell me how I can go to heaven!"

Her friend who had been with her in her mourning had been hearing the entire conversation as well. By the end of the conversation we were all compelled to tears and the two ladies asked Jesus to save them.

It was so beautiful to see what God had done even in my selfishness and even though we were so exhausted. The presence of the King was with us and we brought His Kingdom to a small platform home in a remote village of Southeast Asia.

There are people like this all over the world who are saying "Please tell me how I can go to Heaven!" They will never know if we never go! We serve a living God. Go and see what He WILL do through you this summer. But I warn you, do not go if you are not willing to learn more about God, push yourself to new limits, or see people come to know Jesus as Lord of their life.

Team of the Week: Embrace the Beyond

A final "push" is being made to make sure every tribe & language in the South Pacific hears the Gospel in this generation. Churches have been challenged to "Embrace" a people group by adopting, praying for, & going to these peoples that have not heard- places where no one is going! More info & boots on the ground is needed. 

With only a map, GPS, & your backpack, travel from village to village, sleeping where you can, sharing the Good News, encouraging the Christians you find. Bring back solid information about unreached people groups. Build relationships that will later be followed up on as you gather information about the people. 

Your first stop will be a joint orientation with other Nehemiah Teams. Learning the skills needed to carry out your assignment as well as team building will fill these first few days. Your team will then fly to your final destination for the summer. Following your ministry time you will return to the US for a joint debrief... sharing all God has done.
