Building, Digging, Singing, & Elephants

Hello all!  It's been a pretty busy week. We now have a 3rd member in our group! He'll be with us for the remainder of our stay.

We finished a little hut that will be used as a meeting hall for some farmers in the village we stayed at this week. We helped put a straw roof on top and I nailed bamboo support beams on the wooden frames while the other two guys helped install the walls.

We spent another day mixing pig feed as well as installing a table in the meeting hall.

During the last two days of our stay in this village, we dug a pit and leveled it for a pig pen that will be put in later on. In my opinion, it might have been the hardest work we have done so far while over here. The area we dug up wasn't huge, but it wasn't small! We cleared the plot of land of plants and grass using rakes and hoes. After clearing the land, we used the hoes to start breaking up the dirt and moving it off the plot of land. We were working on a slight incline, which made leveling the whole thing a little difficult. The thing that made it hard, was the fact that there was no easy way around this task. Given the tools available, we had to put in the sweat and energy to get it done. But within one full day and a little of the next day, we finished leveling the plot of land.

In the evenings we would go to the homes of elderly people in the village and sing songs with them and read the good book together. We would pray for them and for anything they needed us to and then we would sing more songs for them.

I really appreciate your prayers! Although this week's work has been exhausting, we have had a few days of rest!

Sometime during this week marked the half way point. It's been hard not to miss home, family and friends (especially on July 4th). Please pray that our energy, motivation, and rest would come from Christ alone and not from the anticipation of being home within the next few weeks.

In other news:
We got to ride an elephant!
David killed a chicken this week. We ate it for dinner. It was pretty good.

'Til next time!
